Express Entry Draw

Express Entry: 385 PNP Candidates Receive ITA

Express Entry Draw

Canada has just held a new Express Entry draw, inviting the immigration candidates who had previously received a provincial nomination.

The Express Entry candidates who had provincial nominations were invited to apply for Canada permanent residence.

The total number of 385 PNP candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITA) was issued to the Express Entry candidates in the latest invitation round which held on 27th May 2020.

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates in the Express Entry pool are awarded an additional 600 points based on their original human capital score.

This is why the minimum CRS score requirement was 757 for this draw. Without the additional points from the provincial nomination, the invited candidates would have had a human capital score of 157.

This is the 6th Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) only draw from the federal Express Entry system since special coronavirus measures went into place on March 18.

Canada has been alternating between holding Express Entry draws targeting Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates.

The Draws were targeting the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates particularly have a much lower Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cutoff.

The last Canadian Experience Class (CEC) only draw invited the candidates with CRS scores of at least 447 and the lowest requirement for these candidates since January 2019.

A tie-break rule was applied in this latest draw. All candidates with a CRS score of at least 757 who submitted their profile before 27th April 2020 at 10:19:01 UTC, received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in this round and these Draws dates have also become more unpredictable because, in the last year, all-program draws that covered Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. This happened every two weeks but now that Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) are holding the targeted draws, they may happen days or hours apart.

Express Entry CRS Cutoff

So far the immigration targets are on course to exceed last year’s levels. Even with travel restrictions in place, there have still been more Invitations to Apply (ITA) issued in this year 2020 than at the same time in 2019. As of today, May 27, a total number of 38,585 Express Entry candidates have been invited to apply for Canada permanent residence in 2020.

Express Entry ITA

The Canadian immigration is managed by the federal government of Canada and Express Entry is the government’s system for managing immigration applications for 3 of economic-class programs i.e.

  1. Federal Skilled Worker
  2.  Federal Skilled Trades, and
  3. Canadian Experience Class

The people who are eligible for one of these programs must submit their profile into the Express Entry pool. In the Express Entry pool, the candidates were given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on their human capital factors like age, work experience, education, and language ability in English or French. The highest-ranking candidates are then invited to apply for Canada permanent residence through regular Express Entry draws.

Here is a hypothetical scenario of someone who may have been invited in the latest draw for your reference:

Mr. Ahmed is 34 years old who holds a bachelor’s degree. Ahmed has been working as a social services worker for the last 6 years and he wrote the IELTS and scored a 7.5 in listening and a 6.5 in every other ability. Ahmed has never worked or studied in Canada but he entered the Express Entry pool in late 2019 with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 333. In the last year December 2019, the Canadian province of Nova Scotia used its Labour Market Priorities Stream to invite Ahmed to apply for provincial nomination. With the provincial nomination, Ahmed’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score increased to 933, which was high enough to obtain an Invitation to Apply (ITA) during the May 27 Express Entry draw.
