Saskatchewan Issues 234 Invitations Again in Second January Selection Round

The latest two Saskatchewan selection rounds were broken up by only a weekend by a total of 542 invitations that have gone out to Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand candidates in the last four days. On Monday 13th Jan 2020 the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) issued another 234 invitations to candidates in the province’s Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand streams. In last draw Friday’s round was slightly higher, sending out a total of 308 invitations to candidates in the same sub-categories.

Just in 2 days is the shortest gap between the dates of two consecutive draws since Saskatchewan introduced the Expression of Interest (EOI) system in August 2018. Saskatchewan Expression of Interest system allows the province to select immigration candidates that have the potential to thrive in the prairie province. The Interested candidates must create an Expression of Interest  (EOI)  profile and be assessed on how their work experience, education, language ability, age, and connections to the province demonstrate their capacity to settle into life in Saskatchewan. The Candidates are then awarded a score out of 100 based on the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid.

The highest-scoring candidates are then issued an invitation to apply (ITA) for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence. The minimum score required in the January 13 draws was 69 for both sub-categories and there is No job offer required in order to receive an invitation from Saskatchewan. The candidates need at least 1 year of work experience to eligible for skilled occupations related to their field of study.

Express Entry Sub Category

In the latest selection round, Saskatchewan issued 125 invitations to candidates who had profiles in the federal Express Entry pool. Saskatchewan’s Express Entry sub-category is linked to the federal Express Entry system that manages the pool of candidates for 3 of Canada’s main economic-class immigration programs i.e.

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Class,
  2. Federal Skilled Trades Class,
  3. Canadian Experience Class.

If candidates in the federal Express Entry pool also filled out an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Saskatchewan and they scored 69 on the SINP’s Points Assessment Grid they may have been selected on January 13. The Express Entry candidates who apply for and receive a provincial nomination from the province of Saskatchewan are awarded an additional 600 points toward their CRS score at the federal level and they are effectively guaranteed an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Occupations in Demand Sub Category

The Occupations In-Demand sub-category is open to immigration candidates who do not have a federal Express Entry profile. There were 109 Occupations In-Demand candidates invited to apply for a provincial nomination. The Express Entry sub-category candidates needed a provincial score of 69 in order to be Select. The 13th Jan 2020 draw issued invitations to candidates in 65 occupations, such as financial managers, human resource professionals, and university professors and lecturers among others.
